We provide equipment rental, guided adventures of all kinds, charter fishing, and water or road transport via our landing craft and comfortable van. We are a full-service Outfitter-Guide and will soon be able to offer lodging, as well. We specialize in eco-tourism, and also organize cultural tours.
Hiking
Hike the Sunnahae trail!
The trailhead is within easy walking distance of the schools. Located on the pedestrian and bicycle trail near the new high school and the entrance to town. There is a sign off of the main road near the parking area. This trail offers various lengths and difficulties. It's about 1/2 mile from the trail head to the "old logging road" with the "little waterfall". There is a newly updated extension of the trail, that goes about another 1/2 mile up to the "second muskeg" right at the base of the alpine. The trail then continues through various terrains another mile up to the peak let by ribbons, where there is a tower located.
All residents age 18 or older and nonresidents age 16 or older must purchase and possess a sport fishing license to participate in Alaska sport and personal use fisheries. In addition, a king salmon stamp is required to fish for king salmon. These laws apply in both fresh and marine waters. Sport fish licenses and king salmon stamps may be purchased online, at most sporting goods stores, and at Fish and Game offices.

Fish with Catch-A-King Charters
This year is Catch-A-King's 30th anniversary of being in business. Their North River charter boats are state of the art and specifically designed for saltwater fishing in Alaska and they are equipped with the finest halibut and salmon fishing tackle available. Their staff is loaded with guides who have been with the company since before the beginning, as well as guides who grew up at Catch-A-King, and guides who were born and raised fishing the waters around Prince of Wales Island. Guided trips are available from June-August.
With over 30 years of guiding experience, Black Dog Sportfishing offers guided charters for king salmon, coho, halibut, lingcod, and rockfish aboard a custom 28’ North River Seahawk from June-August on the outermost of Prince of Wales Island.
Emerald Island Adventures offers small customized tours for 3-4 people aboard the F/V Luna Sea, a 21' aluminum landing craft built by Svenson Marine in Wrangell, Alaska
With a maze of inlets, channels, islands, and bays that the West coast of Prince of Wales has to offer, you are almost always guaranteed to see whales, sea otters, eagles, and a diversity of other wildlife on your tour.
(Permitted by the US Forest Service to go ashore in many locations for shore hikes, beach-combing, tide-pooling and bonfires.)
Take a scenic drive to Kasaan and pick up lunch at the Totem Cafe, and then walk the trail from the cafe to the Náay Í’waans Chief Son-i-Hat Whale House (self-guided and Tribal tours available).
